Retail Price Index down 0.51% in January
In January 2010, the Retail Price Index went down by 0.51 per cent. This primarily reflected a drop of 21.41 per cent in the Clothing and Footwear Index, mainly due to seasonal price decreases in garments. Downward shifts in the prices of motor cars caused the Transport and Communication Index to go down by 0.25 per cent. The Household Equipment and House Maintenance Cost Index went down by 0.13 per cent, mainly on account of lower prices for household textiles.
